Tenant’s brother trying to get with me
Dear Pastor,
I hope you had a good Christmas like I did. I had plenty to eat and I slept a lot. I still have food in the refrigerator. Everybody brought me food and drinks. I was glad to see my two grandchildren who are living in St James; their parents brought them to visit me. They didn't spend Christmas Day, but I saw them on Christmas Eve.
I really missed my husband. I lost him two years ago. He was such a fine man. He used to do all the cooking and the baking for Christmas. Since he died, I haven't bothered to look for any other man. He was the only man that I wanted in my life, but cancer and diabetes took him away. He left me very comfortable. I have a four-bedroom house and I rented out two rooms to a policeman and his girlfriend. They are nice people. They don't have children. They pay their rent on time.
One day, the policeman's girlfriend introduced me to her older brother. Then I noticed that even when they were not there, he was coming around. One day when he came by, they were not there and he came around to my side and was chatting with me. This man started to question me and asked me if I wasn't lonely. I told him I wasn't. He said he feels lonely at times and was looking for a woman, and I am the type of woman that he would love to have. I told him that I did not want a man at my age. I am 65 years old and I do not want a man to harass my body, because since my husband became ill and died, my body has been at rest.
I know that the man was fishing around. He asked me for my number and I gave it to him, but I told his sister what he was asking me and she told me that I should try not to get involved with him because he loves women and he is living with one, so he was lying. I don't think that I want to see that man again. If he is living with a woman, what does he want from me? Perhaps he is coming to rob me. His sister must have told him what I told her, because he has not called me and I have not called him.
I don't want any man; I am quite comfortable. I am happy in my church. Men see me and tell me that I look nice, but I am not interested in them. I do my little gardening, and I go out with my friends whenever we feel like it. Pastor, I enjoy listening to you on the radio and I enjoy your column. You are an inspiration to me. Love you.
O.P.
Dear O.P.,
I am glad that you had a good Christmas and were able to spend a little time with a couple of your grandchildren.
Christmas is a good time to be with family. Although you miss your husband, people have treated you very well. I am also happy to hear that you have good tenants. They will help to protect you. You are a very fortunate woman.
I consider you a wise woman. I am sure that when your tenant introduced her brother to you, she did not mean you any harm. He thought that you were a pushover. He is a liar; and perhaps he was not looking to just go under your skirt, but to get some money from you. Some of these men don't have any shame at all. But you have your head on your body, so to speak, and you will not allow a man to fool you. There is no need for that. I am glad his sister told you the truth about him. Continue to live a good life, and write to me again.
Pastor
