Can’t afford to carry a child now

Dear Pastor,

Greetings to you, I am faced with a problem. I am 18 years old and I have been having sex with my boyfriend from I was 16.

We always use protection, mainly condoms. My boyfriend is 31 and he lives with the mother of his two children. Sometimes when I want to see him, I cannot ,because he has to stay home with the children. Their mother works at night and they cannot leave the children alone. I don’t know what I would have done if I did not have this man, because I come from a poor family. He gives me everything I ask him for. He does not hold back. I want to go back. He has promised to help me.

I am fretting right now because, the last time we had sex, the condom broke and we were not aware of it until after he ejaculated and withdrew his penis. We realised that not everything went in me, so we felt that we were safe. But now I have not seen my menses and I am fretting because I might be pregnant. If that has happened to me, I don’t know what I would do. He said that I should not fret, he would take care of the baby and me.

I am not ready for a child. I am too young for that. I want to do nursing. So, what do you suggest that I do if I am pregnant?

If you are pregnant, you should carry the pregnancy. I would not encourage you to have an abortion.

This man with whom you have been having sex from you were 16 has been using condoms, but the one you used on that day was old and it broke. You were not aware that that happened. You are fretting because you believe that you might be pregnant. I suggest that you go to your doctor who would confirm whether or not you are pregnant.

I repeat, if you are pregnant, do not do an abortion.
