Church girl is going crazy over me

June 13, 2023

Dear Pastor,

I am a Christian young man and I met a young lady who is also a Christian. She invited me to her church, so I started to attend that one with her.

She introduced me to some of the young people at the church and they invited me to youth fellowship. I am not so young; I am 23 years old and she is 18. We get picked up on Friday evenings to take us to the fellowship. But unless this girl is able to sit next to me in the car, she is not happy. I told her that I love her, but she cannot be selfish. She has not yet started to attend university, but I am attending one.

I told my siblings about this problem that I am having with her, and they told me that I should stop attending that church. I thought about it and I agreed with them. She is really upset with my folk because they are discouraging me from attending her church. She is beautiful, but touchy, and she is immature. She asked the young people from her church to talk to me. I told them the reason why I am not coming back to their church and they say that reason is not strong enough; that only shows that the young woman loves me. I don't want anybody fighting over me in a church where we should all be together, learning to live as one.

My sister said girls are girls everywhere, and in some churches where men are scarce, girls do fight over men. These girls have taken their friendship with her too far and too fast.

Dear S.B.,

Your sister is quite correct. In some churches, whenever a new male shows up, some of the girls in that church behave as if they all want to gang him, especially if he is handsome.

This young girl could be forgiven for her behaviour. She is immature and has a long way to go. But you should not allow her behaviour to prevent you from attending the church. Call her and tell her that you will be visiting at 'x' time, and you will be hiring a vehicle to take you there to the church and take you home. And when you go, just behave as a regular visitor. I am sure she will be glad to see you and that she will behave herself.
