Brown’s injury is no bother to Donaldson
Reggae Girlz' forward Jody Brown could be sidelined for a couple of days, according to Lorne Donaldson Jamaica's coach.
Brown came out on the wrong end of a tackle in a fiery friendly international against Morocco yesterday.
The Reggae Girlz won the match 1-0 courtesy of Atlanta Primus' 18th-minute goal, and although the forward is a little bruised, Donaldson does not expect the speedy winger to be out for an extended period.
"Jody picked up a good knock, and I thought she was done for the game (after that tackle), but she wanted to go on," he said.
Although he eventually pulled the young forward, he does not think she suffered any crucial damage to prevent her from playing the first World Cup match on July 23 against France.
"I think she might be out for a few days. It seems like a deep contusion, but we don't know yet. I am not a doctor, but she might be hobbling around for the next couple of days," Donaldson stated.
The tackle on Brown led to physicality and aggression from both teams, and Donaldson was happy that no one got seriously hurt at the end of play.
"It (tackle) put some spice in the game, as after that, they were some hard tackles, but we were just hoping that nobody from either team got hurt," he said.
Meanwhile, ace striker Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw had a golden opportunity to give the Reggae Girlz the lead early in the match, but she failed to convert from the penalty spot.
However, minutes after, Primus stepped up to notch the game's only goal, and Donaldson was pleased with the quick response after the penalty miss.
"We missed that penalty, but we came back and scored right after, which was good. It was a good response after missing a penalty.
"We had a lot of possession, which is always good. Overall, I thought we defended well. We have been working on trying to keep clean slates. The defending was good, and it was a good warm-up game going into the next match," he added.
