Jamaica confident of beating Bermuda in CFU U14 semi-final showdown
The Under-14 Reggae Boyz will look to continue their Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Challenge Series title defence when they face Bermuda in the semi-finals at Cap Cana Sports City in the Dominican Republic today.
Jamaica, who booked their place as the best group winner, will face Bermuda, the best second-placed team, with kick-off set for 10:30 a.m. Jamaica time.
In the other semi-final, hosts Dominican Republic will face Group B winners Haiti.
Jamaica will enter their semi-final fixture as favourites after an indomitable run in Group C. The young Boyz opened their account with a 4-0 thrashing of St Kitts and Nevis, before getting past Aruba 1-0. They closed out their group campaign with a 2-0 win over Curacao.
Bermuda will enter the semi-finals with a record of one win and two draws. They opened their account with a 1-1 draw against Barbados, before turning back Martinique 2-0 in their second game. They booked their spot in the final four after a goalless draw against the Dominican Republic, to finish second in Group A, with the Dominican Republic taking group honours.
Speaking ahead of the semi-finals, Vassell Reynolds, head coach of the U14 Boyz, is confident of advancing to the final, but admitted that semi-finals bring pressure.
“We will be focused on this game alone. We will not be focused on the final because we have to win this game to get there, but we are very confident and positive,” said Reynolds.
“The semi-final comes with its own pressure, but from within, we will not apply any pressure on the boys. We hope they keep growing, and that’s what we ask of them; keep practicing, keep focusing, and take it a game at a time. And once we do that, the result will take care of itself.”
Leading the lines for Jamaica will be prolific striker Tai-Sean Headley, who has netted three of the team’s seven goals.
The U14 Boyz are looking to defend the Tier I Challenge Series title they won in 2024.
