Patrick confident of Racing fighting back
Racing United coach Anthony Patrick is confident they can overturn their 3-2 deficit against Lime Hall for the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) National Tier II second-leg semi-final.
Racing entered yesterday's first leg at Prison Oval as favourites, and despite going ahead in the 18th minute, Lime Hall (formerly Benfica) came back to score a famous win at the end. Patrick, however, believes the tie is far from over.
"We still have another 90-plus minutes. We are still pretty confident we can turn the table. We are pretty confident that we can recover and come out on top," he said.
"We started on a positive note. We missed three easy chances in the first 30 minutes, and it came back to haunt us, as in the latter part of the game, we gave up two soft goals," he added.
After a bright start, Racing went ahead through Deandre Johnson, but Lime Hall rallied with goals from Dario Stewart in the 33rd minute and Rohan Sewell in the 51st.
Shavaun Reid levelled the tie at 2-2 in the 81st minute, but Ronaldo Hanson scored again for Lime Hall, six minutes from the end, for a crucial advantage going into the second leg, and coach Alfred Barnett said they would fight to the end at home.
"It is always a strength playing at home. Going back with a one-goal advantage is gold, and we have no intention of giving that up. Playing away to a team like Racing, who I have a lot of respect for because we know they are a quality team, our game plan was not to lose. We came here with one point and wanted to return with it, but we got the three, and we will take it," said Barnett.
