No place for Faulkland, Chapelton in Tier II
There will be no place for this season's Jamaica Premier League relegated teams Chapelton Maroons and Faulkland in the National Tier II, according to Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) vice president and Competitions Committee chairman, Raymond Anderson.
Anderson pointed out that the teams will be relegated to their parish Major Leagues.
The Tier II season started last weekend, and the preliminary round of the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) is scheduled to end in two weeks.
"They are not going back to Tier II. They are going back to their parish. The Tier II is already in progress, so they cannot join this Tier II competition, and two teams from this Tier II will be promoted to the Premier League," Anderson stated.
However, Professional Football Jamaica Limited CEO Owen Hill questioned the logic, as he noted that generally demoted teams fall into the tier directly below.
"This (Tier II) is the qualification tournament to the Premier League, so how can you just drop out of the Premier League and cannot (have the chance to) qualify right back? They (JFF) started the competition late and have to try to fix it," he said.
Hill believes there is a way to ensure the two teams take their place in the Tier II league.
"There is a relatively easy solution to this. The solution is to finish the season, but you will have to start it back very soon after it is done.
"Tier II should be played in sync with the JPL, and if it is not concurrent with the JPL, this is what to expect. So the next time an instalment of Tier II is made, Chapelton and Faulkland will be in it," Hill said.
