Want my boyfriend to stop smoking

Dear Pastor,
This is the second time I am writing to you. When I was in high school, I wrote to you about a problem and I spoke to you about it on the telephone and you helped me and I thank you for your help.
I am not a Christian and I do not go to church often. I am now 25 years old and I have a boyfriend. From the time we met, I realised that he was using the weed. I tried to get him to stop, but he assured me that he didn’t use weed every day, so I did not make that a big bother to me. I found out also that his father smoked ganja too. These are educated people.
This man and I should get married, and since we met and the relationship has been going in a serious manner, I have not looked at another man. This man does not smoke the weed as often as before. He has now turned to tobacco. I told him that I don’t like this tobacco smoking either; he thinks that I am miserable. His father told me that when he smokes the weed, it helps him to relax. I have observed that when my boyfriend uses the weed and we have sex, it takes him a longer time to ejaculate and the sex is more satisfying to him.
I would like my boyfriend to quit because I know that smoking marijuana or tobacco is not good for his health. Am I right or wrong?
J.

Dear J.,
Medical doctors have said that any form of smoking can cause cancer of the lung, the mouth or the throat; it may even affect the kidney and cervix.
Smoking increases the craving for nicotine. But it is not easy to stop smoking. One may enjoy better health if one does not smoke. Some young people smoke because they think it is so cool and they like to be among those who appear to be cool and are with the crowd, so to speak.
A wise man who smokes should listen to his woman, and an intelligent woman should not pressure him to quit, but should always encourage him to do so. Many smokers have been able to kick the habit. Some stop smoking and start again. It is a terrible way to waste money. But no smoker should be condemned for the habit.
I stayed at the home of a man who was a heavy smoker and whenever he wanted to smoke, he said to me that he is enjoying the finer things of life. Eventually his doctor stopped him from smoking and he died from cancer.
