Chas E Ramson recommits to JPL with $24m deal
Long-standing distribution company Chas. E. Ramson reaffirmed its commitment to the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) on Friday, with a $24-million sponsorship to the Professional Football Jamaica Limited (PFJL) at the company's Spanish Town Road base.
In the wake of the resignation of PFJL chairman, Christopher Williams, who will officially step down on August 31, director of operations at Chas. E. Ramson, Christopher Ramson, said their recommitment to the league is a show of confidence that the league remains in good hands.
"The relationship between the PFJL and Chas. E. Ramson has been very fruitful and we have enjoyed a good partnership. I have spoken to Chris Williams about the transition and we are confident the new administration will take it and run with it like before," he said.
"So we are happy to come on board with a total of $24 million over the next two years and we are going to put our all in this sponsorship and see it continue to grow.
"When I spoke to Chris (Williams), he is taking a step back. But when the partnership started the first thing he did was put me in touch with a lot of the people on the ground and in the background. So this is not a one man show by any means," Ramson explained.
"A lot of those people are still there, the relationships are still here, so I believe in it. I think he put a lot of good people in place and the administration is going to continue to run a great programme. I have no doubt," he stated.
Full details of the deal were not made available.
However, defending JPL and Caribbean Cup champions Cavalier will continue to adorn the Foska brand on their jersey, while all 14 teams in the league will get nutritional support through the Foska brand.
"We supply all teams. So all teams get nutritional content," Ramson continued. "Cavalier have done very well the last few seasons. And we have seen tremendous growth in the players over the years, and we have seen a tremendous amount of footballers crossing over into the international market," Ramson observed.
"So progammes like the Jamaica Premier League offers opportunities for the youths to get more exposure internationally. So we believe in the programme."
The CEO of the PFJL, Owen Hill, revealed that the lion's share of the sponsorship will be in cash and thanked Chas E. Ramson for continuing to believe in the project.
"It's $24 million over the next two years. And that's a mix between cash and kind. It's an important step in our journey because we need to fuel the next generation of footballers and Foska has shown that commitment," Hill remarked. "Partners like Foska understand the importance of investing in our youths. The country is better off when you have major brands showing their support."
