It may have taken striker Nicholas Nelson four matches to get off the mark in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL); nevertheless, it was expected that the prolific forward would start finding the net soon.

In his last two games, Nelson has netted four goals for new club Dunbeholden, with his latest brace coming in a 2-1 win over former club Molynes United at the Stadium East yesterday, after also scoring twice on Thursday to provide another 2-1 victory for Dunbeholden over Lime Hall.

Nelson resigned his former outfit to their fifth defeat in as many games but declared that though it hurts him, he has accepted that he has moved on.

“I feel a way, but I have moved on, so I have to do what I have to do,” he said afterwards.

Nelson insists he always knew the goals would come, although it took him some time to open his account.

“I told them the season is young, so we just have to focus, and we’ll get the job done and we did it today (Sunday).

“I played three to four matches without a goal, but I stayed at training, did the extra work, and now I get the job done, and now we have won two games back-to-back,” he commented.

Both teams gave their fair share in the first half, and Molynes must be cursing their luck after missing three clear chances to go ahead.

The St Catherine-based Dunbeholden jumped into the lead after 14 minutes when Nelson fired home from inside the area.

Molynes continued to create problems for their opponents but went into halftime 1-0 down.

Dunbeholden grew in confidence after the break, and Nelson, who was Molynes’ top scorer for the last two seasons, added his and Dunbeholden’s second when he tapped home a cross from Stephen Barnett in the 54th minute.

Molynes remained spirited throughout and kept creating chances, but they were exposed to the counter-attack, and Nelson had at least three chances for his hat-trick.

Molynes pulled a goal back in the 88th minute when Nelson’s older brother Jermie fired home from five yards after Damion Hyatt in goal stopped his penalty.

Dunbeholden moved one place up to ninth with eight points, similar to Cavalier, Vere, and Humble Lion and coach Lenworth Hyde said he always knew Nelson would come through.

“He is always a goalscorer from Molynes. I like the player. He works pretty hard. He doesn’t miss training. He is a senior in the Premier League, so I hope the players feed off him and learn from him,” he said.

“This (win) will boost us up, and the momentum is good also.”

Molynes remain at the foot of the table with two points from seven matches, and coach Alex Thomas said goalscoring continues to be their Achilles heel.

“In the first 13 minutes, we got four clear chances that should have been put away. That is what has been plaguing us all season. We are creating these chances and not putting them away, and goals win games,” he said.
