Sunshine Girl Latanya Wilson was over the moon on Thursday after receiving the keys to her new home from Minister Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia 'Babsy' Grange at a handover ceremony at the Ministry of Sport on Wednesday.

Wilson, who helped the Adelaide Thunderbirds to the Sun Corp Netball title in Australia and the Sunshine Girls to the bronze medal at the Netball World Cup in South Africa recently, said it is hard leaving the memories and the place she grew up behind, but reasoned that moving on is a part of life.

"I just really appreciate everyone coming together as a family behind us. It is not easy losing the place where you grew up. It is like losing the memories there, to be unable to be there anymore. Those are the things that we have to live it and the tales we have to tell," she said.

She said owning her home at a young age is unimaginable but noted that other families were also affected by the incident.

"I am happy that at 22 years old, I am getting a lease to own my place. I don't even have the words to express myself. It is just an amazing feeling," Wilson said.

"I am super happy for all the sponsors, government and ministries for coming on board to assist me, but there are still 29 persons out of a home, and I am happy that the government will assist them in whatever area they can.

"I'm happy you guys even took the time to come down to Rum Lane and comfort me and my family. It meant a lot to me and the community," she continued.

Meanwhile, Sadrina Davis, CEO of Grace Staff and Community Development Foundation, announced that the company would be stocking the family with Grace Foods products while providing $250,000 to assist with other necessities.

"Through the foundation, we have known Latanya for years. She was part of our tuition assistant's programme. She has been in our homework centre and spent time with our staff, and we have been very proud of her as she has gone on her journey.

"Today provides an opportunity to continue to support Latanya and her family. We love you and your family and continue to support you," Davis said.
