Latanya Wilson feels the love
On Sunday Mount Pleasant Football Academy Foundation joined a long list of well-wishers looking to assist Sunshine Girl Latanya Wilson recover from a fire that destroyed her home along with that of other families last Thursday on Rum Lane in Kingston.
The Sunshine Girl defender lost almost everything in the blaze, including her Netball World Cup bronze medal won in South Africa last month, her Commonwealth Games silver medal and last season's Super Netball League winners medal for Adelaide Thunderbirds.
Nevertheless, she said the outpouring of support she has received since the incident reminded her of how much she is 'loved'.
"I want to say thank you to the Mount Pleasant Football Academy Foundation and Mr and Mrs Gould," said Wilson after receiving a cheque for $250,000 from Mount Pleasant's general manager Paul Christie.
"A lot of persons have seen my story and are trying to reach out to me. The $250,000, it's really appreciated and the more people coming on board is the faster it will help my family and myself recover from this ordeal," Wilson said.
She admitted that the support she has received to aid her family to get back on their feet is overwhelming.
"I just really want to say thank you (to everybody) for coming on board and assisting where you can. I want to say thanks to my supporters and Netball Jamaica. Seprod and others have been coming on board and a lot of persons have been reaching out and it just reminds me that I am loved and the support rolling in is fantastic," she added.
According to Christie, it was easy to understand the plight of the netballer and they had no hesitation on reaching out and extending their support to the national defender.
"We understand the scenario she is facing with her family right now, so we wanted to help get things sorted as soon as possible.
"It is a no-brainer for the Mount Pleasant Foundation. Whatever we can do to assist the process, the Mount Pleasant Foundation will be helping in whatever shape or form," he stated.
Wilson, who has played in Australia for the past three seasons, also lost precious items such as her laptop and travel documents.
