Matthew Coke's 71st-minute header helped Harbour View to a winning start to their Concacaf Caribbean Club Championships as they defeated local rivals Dunbeholden 1-0 at Sabina Park yesterday.

It was, however, a frustrating evening for new Dunbeholden coach Lenworth Hyde, as they squandered several scoring opportunities.

"It was very frustrating," Hyde said after the game. "From midway the first half, when I saw us getting the chances, I wondered if it was one of those games, but that's football. You create and create and make one mistake, and it costs you.

"The good thing is that this is the first game. We have time to recover," Hyde said.

Harbour View controlled the opening minutes and created good openings, however, it was Dunbeholden who assumed the ascendency, although their best efforts were from long range.

Nevertheless, Dunbeholden superiority continued to grow with Harbour View losing their fluency.

Dunbeholden's Dean-Andre Thomas wasted two good chances, Conale Rose placed a great effort wide, and Zackiya Wilks could not beat Romario Palma from six yards.

At the start of the second half, Dunbeholden also had two great chances in the opening minutes, however, it was Harbour View who found the opener when Garth Stewart redirected a corner across the goal for Coke to head past Dunheholden's goalkeeper Damion Hyatt.

Dunbeholden's threat continued, and they pushed Harbour View into retreat for the rest of the match but could not find a goal despite good chances and Ewan Barton heading against the post in the final minutes.

Harbour View's coach Ludlow Bernard said limited preparation forced them to play a more defensive game, but he was pleased with the organisation and effort of his players.

"Our lack of preparation would not allow us to put up a stellar showing, but it was not about the show. It was about the three points.

"Now that we have cleared this particular hurdle, we have players returning and players who should be getting better, so going forward, we should be in a much better standing," Bernard said.
