Shaw: We know what Panama have to offer
Suspended captain Khadija Shaw wants the Reggae Girlz to remain confident and build on the historic point they gained in Sunday's 0-0 draw with France at the FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia.
Shaw was sent off late in the match after a second caution. The Jamaican management appealed against the red card but the appeal was thrown out by FIFA and the team will now be without the big striker for their second game against Panama on Saturday.
Nevertheless, the 26 year-old wants the team to build on their first ever point at the Women's World Cup.
"This is the game to follow up that one (France). It is going to be a big challenge for us. We have played Panama multiple times before so we know what they have to offer. But ultimately I think we have to focus on ourselves, go out and build on this result, keep our confidence high, work for each other as always and, hopefully, at the end of the day we can get the job done," she said.
Shaw added that the relationship between the players is the main driving force and the reason why the team continues to defy the odds, and she expects this togetherness will continue to help them achieve their targets.
"Outsiders looking in can see we are always together. We are one family. We feed off each other's energy and it's good when you have that chemistry and that relationship with your teammates.
"If one of my teammates is out of position I am going to cover for her, and that is how we have always been," she continued.
She added that although preparations ahead of the World Cup were not the best, they believe in what they can so as individuals and as a team.
"Preparation wasn't the best. It was below the standard but we have focused on what we can control and that is to give our best on the pitch. We believe in ourselves and our capabilities and we hope that it is good enough," she said.
