Young Lyn seeks to return Constant Spring to glory

On Saturday, Constant Spring FC became the first to book their place in the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Championship (Super) League final after a 2-1 and 3-2 aggregate win over Brown's Town in their second-leg semi-final at Vauxhall High School.
It has been some time since the former Jamaica Premier League (JPL) outfit enjoyed any success since the passing of figurehead Maurice 'Danny' Lyn in January 2021 and then his brother Neville in April of the same year, and many predicted the demise of Constant Spring.
The expectations were that Constant Spring would slump similarly to Meadhaven, going down after the passing of their undisputed boss and coach David 'Wagga' Hunt.
Neville's son Andrew, however, stepped in before the start of this season and has been a massive boost for Constant Spring.
He said he aims to continue his father's and uncle's legacy, and his ambition is to win the Championship League, get back to the JPL and return Constant Spring to their former glory, highlighted in 1995 when they finished second in the island's top-tier competition.
"I want to mention my uncle and my father, Danny Lyn and Neville Lyn, they are the ones who really set the foundation, and I am just carrying it on," Lyn said.
"I am very proud of where we have reached. We have been undefeated all season, so I am just really proud of the team, and we will continue doing what we are doing, and hopefully, we will come out on top.
"Eventually, we want to return to the Premier League, but we will have to go through Tier II first," he continued.
He hopes that KSAFA will review the ban on its clubs participating in Tier II and vote to reverse that decision.
He is enjoying the management experience, although believing that discipline wasn't great at first, but he has seen growth and improvement and predicts brighter days for Constant Spring FC.
"I see some great times coming back for the club. It is just this season that I took charge, but I have been around since I was a young child, and since their (father and uncle) passing, I decided to come in and take charge. As long as I am alive, I will definitely be here.
"The ambition is to continue moving forward, develop our youth programme, and become a household name again in Jamaica's football.
"That is what we were, and that is what I know it to be, so I want to bring it back to that level," he said.
Constant Spring host Boys' Town in the final of the KSAFA Championship League on Sunday at 7 p.m.
