Whitmore dismisses Mount Pleasant’s urban fears
Pundits and fans have argued that Mount Pleasant Football Academy struggle to play in the Corporate Area, one of the main barriers between them and the coveted Jamaica Premier League (JPL) title.
Current coach Theodore Whitmore, after their 7-0 demolition of Chapelton Maroons at the Ashenheim Stadium on Monday, is adamant that they will play wherever they have to and do what they must to take home the JPL title to St Ann.
"This is the back end of the season, and we have to win games. No game is going to be easy, so it doesn't matter where we play, we have to get the victory," Whitmore said.
"We know what it is going to take to get over the line. The last two games we have played, we scored a lot of goals, but how things are now, no team is going to lay down and die, and results are what will count."
In their six travels to the urban area this season, Mount Pleasant have recorded two victories over Tivoli Gardens and Chapelton, two draws and two defeats.
However, after hitting a rut in the goal-scoring department a few weeks before, the former national coach was pleased that striker Ataparoy Bygrave rediscovered their scoring boots in the last two games, in which they scored 12 goals, with five against strugglers Vere in their previous match.
"It is pleasing to see the team scoring some goals. We have been doing a lot of finishing and set pieces.
"Atapharoy came in, and his match fitness and confidence weren't high, coming into a new team and all that, but he has been doing very well in training recently, and for the last couple of games, it has shown," Whitmore noted.
Mount Pleasant with two games remaining in the preliminary stage, are third in the standings on 45 points, one behind Cavalier and four adrift of leaders Arnett. Whitmore still has his sights on a top-two finish.
"We have two games, and we are just going to work hard and whatever happens happen, but we will do what we have to do," he said.
