Gear clash holds up Harbour View, Molynes match
A clash of colours at the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) fixture between Harbour View and Molynes at the Ashenheim Stadium yesterday held up the game for more than 25 minutes, to the disappointment of the fans on hand to witness the encounter.
The game was halted after 15 minutes by match officials, who had problems with the blue of Molynes and the blue and gold of Harbour View.
However, both of Molynes' gear were inadequate, as their other gear, a gold kit, was similar to that of Harbour View.
Harbour View, on the other hand, had their red and white away kit, but coach Ludlow Bernard insists he has had enough of this type of situation and had no intention of accommodating it anymore.
"I would blame the organisers, the league directors, the match commissioners and the referee for such a blatant error," Bernard said.
"I wasn't going to do it. I did it last year, and I wasn't going to do it again. Molynes knew exactly what was happening. They did it to us last season, and they came back again this season."
He noted that they had a similar situation last weekend with Waterhouse, who, however, communicated with Harbour View's management, and they worked something out.
"I wouldn't want to entirely blame Molynes. We had the red and white (away) gear, and they wanted us to play in it, but I had to really put my foot down today. The organisers need to get it right because it will happen again," he stated.
His counterpart Alex Thomas noted that he was not part of the Molynes' set-up last year, and he insisted there was nothing else they could do, as both their gear clashed with that of Harbour View.
"It was out of our hands. We had both our team gear, but our gear are blue and gold, and Harbour View wear the same thing.
"We have to control what we can control, and we could not control that, but we are here to play football, and we got a second gear and played, and that was good. At the end of the day we played and got a point," he said.
Meanwhile, 10-man Harbour View came from a goal down to earn a point from the match. Demar Rose was ejected in the 55th minute after head-butting an opponent.
Jermy Nelson put Molynes ahead when he finished off a set play from close range in the 73rd minute, however, Harbour View never gave up and in time added Colorado Murray headed home the equaliser to earn a point.
Harbour View stay fourth with 40 points, falling two points adrift of third-place Mount Pleasant, with Molynes remaining 10th on 27 points.
