83-y-o woman, granddaughter gunned down
Relatives of 83-year-old Merna Robinson are in shock after she and her 37-year-old granddaughter Phyllis Powell were murdered in Robinson's Bayshore Park, Harbour View, St Andrew, home late Wednesday night.
"Mi deh home and get a call seh dem shoot up mi mother and mi niece," said Tameka, Robinson's daughter. "Mi niece nuh live here -- a hair she come do and end up haffi stay over because the style she did a do tek long."
"A only woman alone live over here, mi mother a 83 -- all she do a stay home, do the maths. She nah fass with people, and mi nuh have no family walk and kill people. Wah dem coulda be after?" she added.
"After she turn 83 mi say, 'God mek she reach 90, nuh bother tek her weh yet; we want couple more years.' She wash her own clothes and cook her own food. All when mi sister dem cook fi her and she get her big plate a food, she still make her Ramen soup because she love Ramen," she said.
"Mi a pray, because mi a leave it to God. Mi is a church woman and mi have the support from my church people, but this hard," she added.
Robinson's son, Kevin, said his mother was known for helping others in need.
"Is a woman who will see somebody who a run up and down and nuh have no family and give dem somewhere fi sleep and feed dem until dem get back pon dem foot," he said. He showed the news team the grim scene.
"A right here so mi mother sit down inna har chair, and dem come in and shoot har. Mi come in and see mi mother lifeless inna the chair," he said.
"It look like mi niece run go inna the bathroom. A in deh mi go see har inna the shower pon the ground with har head hold dung."
Residents say the killings have left them shocked, especially given Robinson's age.
"A long time mi live out yah so and mi a over 50, and a the first mi a hear something like this a happen inna the place," one resident said.
"If dem a kill old woman, mi nuh safe in here either."
