Pantason, Downswell collab wins gospel award

Music producer Taj-vaughn ‘Pantason’ Johnson is celebrating a major career milestone after he and gospel recording artiste Kevin Downsell won Collaboration Song of the Year at the 2026 Canadian Selah Music Awards (CSMA) for their uplifting Afro-gospel anthem, ‘Bless Me’.
For Johnson, who has built his reputation producing music in the secular arena, the award carries special significance as it marks his first venture into gospel music.
“The experience was amazing because I was able to be part of the gospel community. This Bless Me song is my first gospel project, and for it to reach this far is truly a blessing,” Johnson said. The single has resonated with audiences around the world, surpassing 100,000 streams on Spotify while amassing more than two million views on YouTube, underscoring its growing international appeal. 
The 2026 Canadian Selah Music Awards, held last month in Calgary, Alberta, brought together acclaimed artistes, industry executives and Christian music supporters from around the world in a celebration of excellence in gospel music. Organised by Canada Gospel Productions Inc, the annual awards recognise outstanding achievements by Canadian and international Christian artistes, songwriters, producers and music industry professionals while highlighting the diversity and impact of gospel music globally.
Downsell, one of Jamaica’s leading gospel voices, previously credited Johnson’s professionalism and openness as key ingredients in the success of their collaboration.
“Pantason is known for his versatility in the secular space, but what struck me most was his respect and reverence for the process and his openness to what God was doing through the music,” Downsell said.
“He didn’t just bring the beat — he brought creativity, excellence and a willingness to lean into the heart of the message. Working with him reminded me that God can use anyone, anywhere, to accomplish His sound on the Earth.”
The award-winning collaboration represents another significant achievement for Jamaican gospel music on the international stage, while also showcasing Johnson’s ability to successfully bridge musical genres.
