Ras Zukes salutes his ‘Island Paradise’
Although he has lived in the United States of America for many years, Ras Zukes never forgets his roots.
He pays homage to his Caribbean heritage on Island Paradise, his latest song. Produced by Trainline Records out of South Florida, the song sees the singer longing for West Indian warmth and hospitality.
"It was inspired by a deep longing to capture the serene beauty and vibrant spirit of island life - a place where freedom, joy, and connection to nature come alive," said Ras Zukes. "Writing it allowed me to celebrate that sense of peace and adventure that the islands represent, inviting listeners to escape and dream alongside me."
Island Paradise came out one year after the release of Mama Tell Me That, his first album, which is produced by Kenergi Music. That project was inspired by Margaret Higgins, Ras Zukes' mother, who died in September 2024. The smooth reggae feel of Island Paradise is different in tone from most of his previous songs, which have a dancehall flavour. He said that that is deliberate.
"I wanted to explore new musical landscapes that mirror the evolving stories I want to tell, blending fresh rhythms and melodies to create something authentic and refreshing," Ras Zukes explained.
Born in Trelawny, Ras Zukes was raised in Kingston. A recording artiste since 2003, he developed his sound working in hotels on the north coast.
