Jamaica U14 footballers need plenty work Haiti win 4-0 in CFU Challenger Series Tier I final

Much work is needed for the development of Jamaica’s football at the youth level.
The assessment follows the 4-0 hammering suffered by the national team in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-14 Challenger Series Tier I final against Haiti at Cap Cana Sports City, Dominican Republic, on Sunday.
“It’s important we continue to work on our speed of players, including the speed of thought, our technical capacity, and our fitness, which has some room for improvement,” noted Vassell Reynolds, head coach of the Jamaica team, after the contest.
The Haitians came into the decider as favourites and outplayed the young Reggae Boyz for a resounding victory.
Jodeley Sheeck Delmas put Haiti ahead after 28 minutes, a lead they held until halftime.
Wenskey Dumorne made it 2-0 early into the second half, and he added a second goal to make it 3-0 after 47 minutes. Ronelson Pele Janvier sealed the win with a goal in the 59th.
Reynolds thought his team held their own well in the first half, but believes the technically superior Haitains were ultimately too strong.
“I thought we did well in the first half. We were very competitive, but we conceded a goal at a critical moment of the game, which kept pushing us back,” he observed.
“We knew the Haitian team was a pretty good one. Technically they are very competent and fast with the ball, and they proved that today,” said Reynolds.
The Haitians were a lot more positive than the young Reggae Boyz and had few good openings, the best of which fell to Jean Eddyson Paul. But his well-struck shot was tipped around the post by goalkeeper Knevoy Brown.
Ronelson Pele Janvier had two bites at a great chance soon after, but his first effort was blocked, and he placed the rebound wide from eight yards.
Moments later, Messi Jay Jean cut through the Jamaica defence and set up Janvier, but a brilliant stop by Brown kept the game scoreless.
Haiti eventually broke the deadlock in the 28th minute after a sustained period of pressure, when Janvier set up Jodeley Sheeck Delmas to slot home from 12 yards.
Haiti extended their lead four minutes into the second half when Dumorne found just enough room inside the area to curl a shot past Brown.
Dumorne then added his second and Haiti’s third in the 47th minute, before Ronelson Pele Janvier sealed the win with a 59th-minute strike.
“It was (a) difficult (game), especially the fact that we came into the game unbeaten with a clean sheet,” Reynolds expressed. “So the margin of loss was disappointing, but they will be fine.
“The recognition of playing in back-to-back finals will give them some level of satisfaction.”
Jamaica goalkeeper Knevoy Brown was named best goalkeeper of the tournament.
Haiti’s Delmas finished as the tournament’s leading goalscorer, while Dumorne earned MVP honours.
