Lion roar to victory

Portmore United climbed clear at the top with a 1-0 win against struggling Tivoli Gardens at Juici Park in Clarendon in the Red Stripe Premier League football competition yesterday.

Maalique Foster netted in the 78th minute and pushed Portmore to 43 points from 21 games, four ahead of defending champions Arnett Gardens.

Montego Bay on 38, and Humble Lion (32), round off the top four in the race for semi-final places.

At Barbican Complex, Humble Lion FC tagged Boys' Town 3-1, courtesy of goals by senior players Francois Swaby in the third minute, Ricardo Cousins (65th), and Wolry Wolfe (74th). Shamar Nicholson scored for Boys' Town in the 18th minute.

Humble Lion, who had not won a game in their last five, dominated early and deservedly took the lead when Swaby rose high and

headed past Boys' Town goalkeeper Mikhail Harrison. However, injury to Humble Lion's Kemeel Wolfe saw the away team losing control and Boys' Town crept back.

After the game, coach of Humble Lion, Vassell Reynolds, said that the team stepped up and won the game after four draws and a loss in the last five games.

"We had a serious talk with the team and the senior players stepped up and delivered. It

wasn't the game we wanted, but a win was important to maintain our top four spot.

In other games, UWI FC held Harbour View to a 2-2 draw at UWI and Rivoli played to a 1-1 draw against Arnett Gardens at Prison Oval in Spanish Town.
