Truck driver charged after cops allegedly spot holes in hijacking story

A Clarendon truck driver who allegedly told police that a gunman hijacked him and made off with a truck, cash and his cellphone is now facing multiple charges after detectives reportedly uncovered inconsistencies in his story.

Thirty-five-year-old Choy Shaw, otherwise called ‘Risy’, a truck driver of Palmer Cross, Clarendon, has been charged with creating public mischief, larceny of a motor vehicle and larceny as a servant.

According to the May Pen police, Shaw was hired to transport items for a client when he later reported that he had been hijacked at gunpoint by a lone assailant.

He allegedly told investigators that the gunman directed him to another location, where he was robbed of an Isuzu Elf truck, $49,000 in cash and a Samsung mobile phone.

However, detectives reviewing surveillance footage from the surrounding area reportedly found major inconsistencies in Shaw's account.

Shaw was subsequently questioned and allegedly provided information that conflicted with his original report.

He was detained and later charged following further investigations.

The truck has not yet been recovered.

Shaw is scheduled to appear in the Clarendon Parish Court on September 4.
