Bus conductor's alleged killer caught after nine-month hunt

A 35-year-old farmer who was wanted in connection with the stabbing death of a young bus conductor in Spanish Town last year has been charged with murder after being captured in St Mary.

Veral Morris, otherwise called ‘Maio’, was arrested by the St Mary police in Fort Stewart district on August 23 and later escorted to St Catherine.

The deceased is 21-year-old Ricardo Powell, otherwise called ‘Red Bull’, of Portmore, St Catherine.

Morris was charged with murder on August 24 following a question-and-answer session.

The allegations are that about 5:45 p.m. on November 11, 2025, Morris and Powell became involved in an altercation along White Church Street in Spanish Town.

During the dispute, Morris allegedly used a knife to stab Powell multiple times in the upper body before fleeing the scene.

Powell was rushed to the Spanish Town General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Morris had been wanted by the Spanish Town police in connection with the killing.
