Carpenter dies in fiery car crash in Clarendon

A drive home ended in horror for a 30-year-old Clarendon carpenter after the vehicle he was driving slammed into a tree and burst into flames, leaving him trapped inside the mangled wreckage.

The deceased has been identified as Shaquile Campbell of McGilchrist in Toll Gate, Clarendon.

Reports from the Lionel Town Police are that at about 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Campbell was driving a black Toyota Corolla Fielder south towards Lionel Town when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle along the Dawkins Pen main road.

The car crashed into a tree before erupting in flames.

Firefighters from the Jamaica Fire Brigade responded to the scene and removed Campbell from the burning wreckage.

He was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are continuing investigations into the fatal crash.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident on Wednesday, another man lost his life in a motor vehicle crash along the Lyssons main road in St Thomas.

Chairman of the National Road Safety Council (NRSC), Dr Lucien Jones, said the latest crashes have pushed Jamaica's road death toll for July to 39, with 185 people killed in road crashes since the start of the year.
