What was supposed to be an afternoon of football ended in chaos when gunmen opened fire on a group of men gathered outside Bellfield High School in Manchester, leaving two nursing gunshot wounds and another with injuries as panicked spectators scrambled for cover.

Police say the shooting unfolded at about 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, as the three men were among a group gathered at the entrance to the school to attend a football game.

Investigators reported that armed assailants suddenly pounced on the group and opened fire before fleeing the area.

Two of the victims were shot in the face and shoulder, while a third man sustained bruising during the incident.

All three were taken to the Mandeville Regional Hospital, where two were admitted for treatment. The third was treated and later released.

Detectives assigned to the Manchester Police Division are investigating the shooting.
