Teen among trio charged after machete attack over $10,000

A teenager is among three alleged machete-wielding robbers accused of hacking two men before making off with just $10,000 during a violent daylight attack in Sandy Bay, Clarendon.

Charged are 18-year-old Devon Lowther, otherwise called 'Ratty', a construction worker; 19-year-old Tevin Osbourne, otherwise called 'Foodie', also a construction worker; and a teenager, all of Sandy Bay, Clarendon.

The trio has been charged with robbery with aggravation, unlawful wounding, possession of a prohibited weapon, and using a prohibited weapon to commit a felony.

According to the Sandy Bay Police, at about 2:00 p.m. on July 7, two men were walking home when they were confronted by the accused, who allegedly demanded money.

The victims reportedly refused, prompting the suspects to leave the area before returning a short time later armed with machetes.

Police say the three allegedly attacked the men, inflicting multiple chop wounds before robbing them of J$10,000.

The incident was reported to the police and an investigation launched.

The accused were later apprehended and, following separate question-and-answer sessions conducted in the presence of their attorneys, were jointly charged.

A court date is being finalised.
