Taxi operator gunned down execution-style near Portmore Mall

A 36-year-old taxi operator was shot dead execution-style near the Portmore Mall in St Catherine on Monday night, leaving police searching for his killer.

The deceased has been identified as Andre McKenzie of Arura Way, Watson Grove, Portmore.

According to police reports, at about 9:30 p.m., McKenzie was standing with several other people along Dawkins Drive when a lone gunman suddenly approached.

The attacker allegedly opened fire, striking McKenzie in the head before fleeing the scene on foot.

Police responded and found McKenzie, dressed in black, lying in a pool of blood in the bus bay.

He was pronounced dead after being removed from the scene.

Investigators have not yet established a motive for the killing.

The Portmore Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) is investigating the fatal shooting.
