An apology, mediation and a $50,000 payout was all it took for a St Catherine daycare operator accused in a shocking baby bite-mark case to walk free Tuesday.

The 48-year-old woman, who had been facing charges of neglect and cruelty to a child, was discharged in the St Catherine Parish Court after the child’s mother agreed to settle the matter through mediation.

The case stemmed from an April 21, incident in which a mother reportedly discovered bite marks on her 10-month-old baby while bathing her after picking her up from the daycare facility.

A report was made to the Spanish Town Police,

Despite the settlement, the presiding judge ordered police to launch further investigations into whether the daycare centre is operating within proper licensing guidelines.
