An 18-year-old youth is dead and a 16-year-old boy hospitalised after a motorcycle slammed into a cow along the Petersfield main road in Westmoreland late Wednesday night.

Dead is Finardo Whitelocke, an unemployed resident of Logwood district in Whithorn, Westmoreland.

Reports from the police are that about 11:30 p.m., Whitelocke was riding a green Champion motorcycle towards Savanna-la-Mar with 16-year-old Ryan Williams riding pillion when a white cow reportedly wandered onto the roadway near Petersfield Primary School.

The motorcycle reportedly crashed into the animal, sending both teens flying from the bike.

The injured boys were rushed by private motor vehicle to the Savanna-la-Mar Public General Hospital, where Whitelocke was pronounced dead.

Williams sustained a broken right leg and remains admitted for treatment.

Investigators revealed that neither teen was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The scene was processed by members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, the Accident Investigation and Reconstruction Unit (AIRU), and firefighters from the Savanna-la-Mar Fire Department.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
