Pedestrian killed in St Mary hit-and-run horror

Police in St Mary are probing a deadly hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a man believed to be of unsound mind Tuesday night.

The incident happened about 9:30 p.m. along the Heywood Hall main road near the Hampstead entrance in the parish.

According to preliminary reports, the unidentified man was walking along the roadway when he was hit by an unknown motor vehicle.

“The driver reportedly failed to stop and left the injured man on the roadway. He was dressed in a light blue T-shirt and dark-coloured shorts,” said Commanding Officer for the St Mary Police Division, Anthony Wallace.

The injured man was taken to the Port Maria Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police are now appealing to anyone with information that could help identify the vehicle or driver involved to contact the Port Maria Police.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Meanwhile, the St Mary police are urging motorists and pedestrians to exercise greater caution while using the nation’s roadways.
