Ex-con killed in alleged shootout with police in Cassava Piece

Fatally shot by police in Cassava Piece St. Andrew this morning

A man who was reportedly released from prison less than two years ago after serving more than a decade behind bars was fatally shot during a police operation in Cassava Piece, St Andrew, early Tuesday morning.

Dead is Orlando Salmon, otherwise called 'Bomma'.

Reports are that about 4:30 a.m., lawmen carried out a planned operation in the community when Salmon was shot during an alleged confrontation.

A firearm was reportedly seized during the incident.

The full circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting have not yet been disclosed.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has since launched a probe into the incident.

As of May 19, some 130 people have been killed during alleged confrontations with the security forces since the start of the year, with 15 fatalities recorded so far this month.
