Man charged with US citizen’s murder
A St Catherine man has been charged with the murder of US citizen Sherinet Harmond which took place on September 23 on Frazer's Boulevard, St Catherine.
Carey Craig Rutherford, 31, who goes by the alias 'Mad One', was formally charged following an identification parade and interview. He is of a Frazer's Boulevard address.
Harmond, 57, was murdered while coming from a funeral service at Meadowrest Memorial Gardens in the parish. Head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force's Corporate Communications Unit, Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, lauded investigators for their speedy work.
"Generally, we are seeing an improvement in the cases and how quickly they are able to clear them. It's another one of those cases that happened and the investigators have done a lot of work to ensure that individuals are apprehended very quickly," she said.
"There are other investigations going against him [Rutherford] so we are still in the process of determining whether or not he is a serial killer," Lindsay added. One of those investigations is the murder of Chinese national Xiang Qi, whose body was found on July 21, 2018 inside his business place at Featherbed Lane, Spanish Town. His hands and feet were bound, and he had multiple wounds to head. Rutherford was scheduled to be interviewed in relation to this case yesterday.
"I know in St Catherine North [Police Division] where the incident happened, it has been a feature in recent times where we see that in quick order, the suspects are apprehended," Lindsay highlighted.
