Ai Milly releases third album
While he was a student at the Oracabessa High School in St Mary, Ai Milly began showing signs of a career in music by entertaining his friends during lunchtime.
He often beat the desks while performing songs by some of his favourite rappers or dancehall artistes. Now the trap/dancehall artiste, who is best known for songs such as God Alone and Henny Energy, continues to blend gritty street narratives with melodic flows and modern trap beats, on his third studio album Old Milly.
Released on July 14 via Dethwrld Records, Catalog Music Group and Krush Flo Records, Old Milly has 17 tracks, and surprisingly, no collaborations.
“It was strategic for me not to have any features on this album. I wanted to showcase my talent and what I have to offer. Features are good, but I also wanted to show that I can do it on my own,” said Ai Milly.
The album is the follow-up to his 2023 project (WTDO) – Welcome to Da O. He said the new album took less than a month to complete. In reflecting on the inspiration behind the album’s title, Ai Milly said that came from life changes and maturing.
“I am a grown adult, and I have been through many changes in my life. This album is about those changes, maturity and growth,” he said. Tracks on the album include the current trending Mute, Perfect Timing,Villain or Hero, and Euphoria.
“The only challenge we had was choosing the final tracks. I wanted to add about 25 songs and the team thought otherwise. But I’m a bit stubborn but very levelheaded. So, it took a while for them to convince me to use 17 songs. Well, they wanted 16, but I added an extra track, so I still won,” he joked.
