Jamaica suffered their second straight defeat in the FIBA Americas Basketball World Cup Qualifiers following a 97-81 defeat to Canada at the National Indoor Sports Centre last night.

Jamaica could not get a handle on the game as Canada led from start to finish.

They opened their dominance with back-to back three pointers from Nate Darling, racing to a 27-19 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The visitors continued to press their dominance and by the end of the second quarter, they had extended their lead to 13 points, heading into the half-way point with a 49-36 margin.

The third quarter would prove Canada's most dominant. At one point the visitors opened a 23-point lead over Jamaica, who were plagued by poor shooting.

Jamaica had their best performance in the fourth quarter as they outscored Canada 23-19, but it was only enough to close the gap to 16 points as the visitors ran out comfortable victors.

Tyran De Lattibeaudiere led the scoring for Jamaica with a game-high 23 points, followed by Andrew Thelwell, 12, and Chase Adugie, 11. Lattibeaudiere also recorded a double-double, as he contributed with 10 rebounds.

For Canada, it was an overall team performance as Marcus Carr led with a team-high 17 points, with Kyle Wiltjer, 16, and Kassius Robertson, 15, were close behind.

In the other game of the group, Puerto Rico picked up their first win of the qualifiers as they defeated Bahamas 71-66.

With the results, Canada remain atop Group B with eight points, having won all four of their games. Jamaica remain second with six points, after recording two wins and two defeats, while Puerto Rico move into third position with five points from one win and three defeats.

Bahamas hold an identical record to Puerto Rico with five points, but Puerto Rico hold the advantage with a better head-to-head record.

Jamaica's final two games of the Americas Qualifiers will be played on July 3 and July 6.
