Bryan intent on playing role in Waterhouse’s top-six quest

Waterhouse FC scored arguably the biggest morale-boosting win of their Jamaica Premier League (JPL) season, beating long-time rivals Harbour View FC 3-0 at the Drewsland Mini Stadium on Monday.

Key to that win was last season's JPL top scorer Javane Bryan, who came off the bench to net a brace that sealed the win over the Stars of the East and kept the Drewsland team in the hunt for a top-six play-off spot.

Bryan, who took his tally to six goals this season, admitted he has not been having the campaign he expected, but said the goals are a big boost to his confidence and the team's play-offs chances.

"Even though I was top scorer last season, I am not dwelling on that at this moment. I just want my team to finish in the top six, and from there we'll take it one game at a time," he reasoned.

"It is very important for me to continue moving up the scoring chart. The next games, we have to be perfect and goals will come. But I just have to be patient and be up to the challenge that we've got and move forward."

Similar to last season when Waterhouse FC were locked in a two-horse race with Montego Bay United for the sixth and final play-off spot, for which Waterhouse prevailed on goal difference over the St James team, Byran is confident they have what it takes to secure a play-off berth this term. This in spite of the challenges from Tivoli Gardens FC (45 points), who hold sixth place, and eighth-placed Racing United FC (41). Waterhouse are seventh on 44 points.

"We were in a similar position like that last season and we got out of that situation, and we think we can do that again."

For much of this season, Bryan has had to come off the bench. However, he noted that they have a lot of quality in the squad and he just wants to deliver for the team when he gets an opportunity.

"I just have to be patient. It (coming off bench) doesn't affect me none at all. I just have to be patient and when I get my chance, come on the pitch and deliver for my team. Today (Monday) I was just on the bench sitting and waiting on the coach to call on me and give me my chance. I got my chance and delivered for my team. It's my job (scoring) so I came out here and delivered for my team, helped my team to get the three points," he said.

The striker added that even though they lost their top-six position in the table recently, they are still in the mix, but they must get as many full points as possible.

"We just have to take it one step at a time. We are moving closer to the top six once again. We just have to take one game at a time, as the only way to reach in the top six is to get all the three points we deserve. And to be honest, there's a very good thing going on in the camp right now," Bryan shared.

"The coaching and the management staff, the sponsors, are all doing the work behind the scenes, and we just have to deliver for them."
