Superior Parts rises from the ashes after massive Hagley Park fire

Superior Parts Ltd has reopened its Kingston branch just days after a massive fire tore through its Hagley Park Road location, destroying its motorcycle division and leaving neighbouring businesses counting their losses.

The company announced the reopening in an Instagram post, telling customers that its Kingston branch at 88 Hagley Park Road is “back up and running and ready to serve you”.

“We’re pleased to announce that our Kingston Branch is now back up and running and ready to serve you,” the company said, while thanking customers for their patience and understanding during what it described as a “challenging few days”.

The reopening comes after firefighters spent hours battling the massive blaze that started at Superior Honda Parts on Thursday, August 27, and spread to nearby properties.

The fire caused extensive damage to Superior Honda Parts and also affected neighbouring businesses, including Ketro Trading Company Limited.

Ketro owner and operator Keith Trowers, who had been operating his auto parts business on McArthur Avenue since 1995, said millions of dollars' worth of goods were destroyed.

“It’s a new beginning man. I am just going to have to start all over once more,” Trowers told THE WEEKEND STAR as he watched firefighters carry out cooling-down operations.

An alleged eyewitness also raised concerns about the water supply during the firefighting effort, claiming low pressure hampered attempts to contain the blaze.

“Is taxis mi run and when mi see the smoke, mi park up and go look and see say is the Honda place on fire and start help with water. But enough water just wasn’t there. Water pressure low and all the fireman dem run out. Some of the hydrants dem hard to pull because people tief some of the parts off it and when dem finally pull, water pressure low, so the breeze just start show off with the fire and a swing it left and right,” he said.

Several National Water Commission and private-company trucks were reportedly brought in to assist firefighters with the water supply.

At least two firefighters were also injured during the operation.

As the flames threatened nearby properties, some residents took desperate measures to protect their homes, including puncturing water tanks to prevent them from being damaged or potentially contributing to the spread of the fire.

The cause of the blaze has not yet been disclosed.

Despite the devastation, Superior Parts' latest announcement signals a return to business for its Kingston operation.

The branch is currently open Monday to Saturday until 5:30 p.m. and Sunday until 2 p.m.

“We’re open and ready to serve you. Visit us today,” the company said.
