Six Haitian nationals detained

The Trelawny police have commenced investigations following the detention of six Haitian nationals and a Jamaican man during a coordinated road block operation in Falmouth on Saturday.

Reports are that, at 9:35 a.m., members of the Trelawny Divisional Operational Support Team was conducting the operation along the Rock main road when they observed a white Toyota Fielder travelling in a westerly direction. The vehicle reportedly attracted the attention of the police after a man was observed being transported in its trunk. The vehicle was signalled to stop and the driver complied. During subsequent checks, six of the occupants were identified as Haitian nationals. Identification cards were reportedly found on the men during a search of the vehicle. However, no passports were found. Investigators also observed that five of the Haitian nationals had wet clothing and luggage at the time they were intercepted. This has formed part of the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding their presence in Jamaica.

The six Haitian nationals and the Jamaican driver were subsequently taken into police custody in Falmouth. Investigations continue.
