CWI Rising Stars: T&T maintain unbeaten run, Jamaica earn second win

ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC):

Trinidad & Tobago (T&T) continued their dominant march through the CWI Rising Stars Under-19 Women’s Championship yesterday, storming to their third straight win with a crushing ten-wicket demolition of the Windward Islands at the Liberta Sports Club.

In a ruthless bowling display, T&T skittled the Windwards for just 52 in 19.4 overs. Off-spinner Samara Ramnath was the star, producing a sensational spell of four for 10, including a hat-trick, as she ripped through the middle order.

Jaeda Tyrell (16) and Kaela George (12) offered the only resistance.

Ramnarath then returned with the bat to smash an unbeaten 27, sharing a 53-run opening stand with Amrita Ramtahal (18 not out) to chase down the target in just 6.3 overs. The victory keeps T&T perfect at the top of the standings.

At the Coolidge Cricket Ground, Jamaica Women secured their second consecutive win, defeating Guyana by 21 runs in a tense contest.

Batting first, Jamaica posted 103 all out in 19.4 overs. Sashane Ricketts top-scored with 22, while Shamara Hall (retired hurt) and Zariah Blair chipped in with 13 apiece. Guyana’s Danellie Manns was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with two for 11.

In reply, Guyana faltered despite a decent start. Akeela Stephen (18) and Sarah Bheir (12) fought hard, but Jamaica’s disciplined attack held firm. Neveah Webley led the way with three for 19, restricting Guyana to 82 all out in 17.2 overs.

Meanwhile, at the same venue, Barbados Women romped to a 90-run victory over the Leeward Islands.

Opener Eboni Brathwaite was the standout, blasting an unbeaten 135 to propel Barbados to a mammoth 262 for two in their 20 overs. She was supported by Zaniyah Bruce (20 not out).

The Leewards replied with 116 for three, led by Zara Skerritt (37 not out) and Innka Wilson (28), but they were always behind the required rate. Camia Matthew-Brome took one for five for Barbados.
