Attorney blasts cops over ‘wanted list’ arrest at airport over Zimi Seh brawl

A man arrested at the airport over the violent brawl that erupted at Sunday’s Zimi Seh Beach Party in St Ann is set to face an identification parade today, but his attorney is questioning whether the process can be fair.

Attorney Donnovan Collins insists that his client had nothing to do with the melee at Puerto Seco Beach in Discovery Bay and says a viral video of the incident makes that clear.

The man was arrested on Monday at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James, while he was waiting with his wife to board a flight to the United States, where they live.

He was arrested on suspicion of unlawful wounding and taken to St Ann, where he was placed in custody.

According to Collins, detectives told his client that a stop-order had been placed against him at the port and that he would have to participate in an identification parade.

But the attorney is crying foul.

“It is clear in that video who the perpetrators are,” Collins said.

He argued that the footage circulating on social media shows that his client was not involved in the incident.

“What is also clear is that my client was not a part of the incident so I am at a loss as to why the police made this serious decision to prevent my client from going home to the United States where he lives,” he said.

The attorney also questioned the fairness of today's identification parade, pointing to a video circulating online showing the faces of six men, including his client, who were allegedly involved in the incident.

Collins argued that the existence of such footage could influence witnesses before they enter the parade.

“Any identification parade would be wholly unfair as all the complainants will do is to pick out the faces of anyone they saw on that so-called ‘wanted list’,” he said.

The brawl erupted during the Zimi Seh Beach Party on Sunday and was captured on video, with footage subsequently going viral on social media.

Two teenagers, aged 15 and 17, both from Kingston, were injured during the altercation.

The fight reportedly began after a water-splashing incident sparked an argument that quickly escalated into violence.

The suspect is expected to participate in the identification parade today as police continue their investigation.
