Argument over money leads to weapon charge
Thirty-five-year-old welder Bryan Webster, otherwise called 'Beefy,' of Campbellton, Petersfield, Westmoreland, has been slapped with several charges following an incident in his community on March 4.
He has been charged with possession of a firearm with intent to injure, assault at common law, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and malicious destruction of property (two counts). Reports from the Savanna-la-Mar police are that at 7 a.m., Webster visited a man's home and accused him of finding $5,000 that belonged to him. This resulted in an argument between them. It is further reported that during the confrontation, Webster hurled stones and a blunt object at the man, causing pain and bruises to several parts of his body, as well as damage to a window. The man ran into his house to escape further injury; however, Webster broke a padlock from the man's verandah gate and then pointed a firearm at him.
Following the incident, a report was made to the police and an investigation was launched. The accused man was taken into custody during an intelligence-led operation in his community. He was charged two days later after statements recorded implicated him. His court date is being finalised.
