In a country often gripped by gun violence, St Andrew North has emerged as a rare bright spot, standing as the only police division in Jamaica without a single murder since the start of the year.

Latest crime statistics released by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) show that up to March 28, the division remains untouched by homicide, setting it apart from the island's other 18 policing areas.

Just a week ago, Kingston Central shared that distinction, but that changed after 30-year-old Damion 'Danger' Henry was gunned down on Wednesday evening in an unofficial car park near the Kingston Public Hospital.

Henry's killing was among 12 murders recorded across the island between March 22 and 28, pushing the weekly tally back into double digits after two weeks of lower figures.

Despite that spike, the overall trend is pointing downward. Murders have dropped by 29 per cent, with 130 killings recorded so far this year compared to 184 during the same period in 2025 -- a reduction of 54 lives lost.

Other major crimes are also on the decline. Shootings, injuries, rape, robbery and break-ins have all decreased, contributing to a 25 per cent overall drop in serious crimes across Jamaica.

Among the hardest-hit areas, St James leads with 18 murders, followed by St Andrew South with 15. Clarendon has recorded 12, Kingston Western 10, and Manchester nine.

As the numbers continue to shift, all eyes are now on St Andrew North -- the lone division holding firm as a murder-free zone in 2026.
