A Canadian woman and a Spanish Town man have been charged following the seizure of a high powered rifle during a police operation in St Catherine.

Charged are 42-year-old Christine Lewis, who has an address in Ontario, Canada and Lime Tree Grove in Spanish Town, and 24-year-old Nakibo Foster, otherwise called 'Knockiss', of Quarry Hill in Spanish Town.

Reports are that about 5:00 p.m. on March 6, police personnel from the St Catherine South Division intercepted a 2019 Toyota Probox motor car being driven by Lewis with two male passengers on board.

During the operation, the man sitting in the front passenger seat reportedly jumped from the vehicle and escaped.

A search of the car was carried out and the police discovered a high powered rifle lodged between the driver's seat and the front passenger seat.

Investigators said a magazine attached to the weapon was checked and found to contain six rounds of 5.56 calibre ammunition.

Lewis and Foster were arrested on suspicion of possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.

Both were later formally charged following a question and answer session with investigators.
