Jamaican visitor allegedly caught with gun, coke in Bahamas
A Jamaican man who travelled to The Bahamas on a visitor's visa has landed in serious legal trouble after police allegedly found him with cocaine and a firearm.
Thirty year old Akeem Williams was remanded into custody on Monday after appearing before Acting Chief Magistrate Ancella Evans, where he pleaded not guilty to several drug and gun related charges.
Prosecutors told the court that Williams was allegedly found with 14 grams of cocaine, a .40 pistol and 14 unfired rounds of ammunition during a police operation on March 5.
He has been charged with possession of cocaine with intent to supply, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.
The court heard that Williams arrived in The Bahamas on February 25 and had been granted permission to remain in the country until March 17. However, immigration authorities have reportedly moved to revoke his visitor's visa following the charges.
Williams is scheduled to return to court on June 15 as the matter continues.
