Three suspected gunmen killed in Linstead Bypass shootout

Three men were fatally shot and two police officers injured during a reported shootout along the Linstead Bypass in St Catherine on Monday night.

The deceased have been identified as 24-year-old Rohan Barrett, of Belmire Avenue, Cedar Grove, Portmore; 25-year-old fruit vendor Davian Francis, of Riversdale District; and 23-year-old mason Tyrese Wright, also of Riversdale.

Their bodies were identified by relatives.

Reports are that about 10:20 p.m., police on duty acted on intelligence and intercepted a Toyota Axio with alleged gunmen along the Linstead Bypass.

A shootout reportedly broke out between the police and the men. When the gunfire ended, three men were found suffering from gunshot wounds, while two others escaped.

The injured men were taken to the Linstead Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Two police officers who sustained gunshot injuries were hospitalised.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (IPROB) have launched probes into the incident.
