September 17, 2025

Quick action by an off-duty policeman at a Trelawny gas station on Monday ended with a construction worker in handcuffs and an illegal gun seized.

Charged is Gary Ferguson, of Mark Lane, Kingston, and Great Pond, Ocho Rios in St Ann.

He has been slapped with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition following the incident in Duncans, Trelawny, on September 15.

According to reports from the Falmouth police, the off-duty cop was at the gas station when a Subaru motor car pulled up. The vehicle matched the description of a car linked to an assault earlier that day at a gas station in Discovery Bay, St Ann.

The policeman accosted Ferguson, who was driving the Subaru, and conducted a search of the vehicle. During the search, a Llama Max .45 pistol with a magazine containing five .45 cartridges was reportedly found.

Ferguson was taken into custody and later charged. His court date is being finalised.
