Shakespeare crafts ‘Mi Seh’ rhythm

Grammy-winning Jamaican producer Shakespeare is turning his attention to ‘Mi Seh’ rhythm, a seven-track dancehall project that brings together a strong mix of established names and current standouts.

The project features Govana with the original Mi Seh, followed by Mi Seh Remix featuring Jada Kingdom. Ding Dong delivers Diggy, IWaata comes through with Rhumpudum, Yung Bredda adds Yuh Hot, Roze Don contributes Instruction Time, while RajahWild rounds out the project with Do As I Say (Tarats).

With seven songs carrying different styles and personalities, Shakespeare wanted to create a project where each artiste could approach the production in their own way without losing the overall feel of the rhythm.

“I wanted each artiste to bring their own style to the riddim. Nobody sounds like they’re trying to do the same thing, but everything still comes together as one project,” Shakespeare said.

Mi Seh arrives as another major addition to a catalogue Shakespeare has spent years building. The Portmore-raised producer has worked with an impressive list of Jamaican and international acts, such as Sean Paul, Vybz Kartel, Popcaan, Shaggy, Mavado, Alkaline, Govana, Teejay and Chronic Law. His production credits include Bayka’s 1Uptown, Chronic Law’s One Life and Govana’s Mawning Sir.

His work has also taken him to one of music’s biggest stages, earning him a Grammy win and adding another significant achievement to a journey that started with a teenager in Portmore making as many as three to five beats a day while developing his craft. Years later, Shakespeare is still approaching music with that same hunger.

While the Grammy win and major production credits have helped establish his name behind the scenes, his focus now is firmly on the Mi Seh rhythm and giving each record on the project an opportunity to connect with its own audience.
