Popular singer-songwriter Shawn Antoine Allwood is having a hard time coming to terms with the death of his younger sister Sashya Cato.

Exactly one month ago, Sashya was found dead in her home in Ludowici, Georgia, after sustaining a gunshot wound. She was also set ablaze.

"She didn't deserve to die like that. There is a lot of sadness, a lot of anger and I'm trying to cope and digest the details of what took place," he told THE WEEKEND STAR. "The process of mourning has been difficult because right after receiving the news, I was on a flight with our dad. I had to go into the same space she was found, see the blood and the burnt space, go through documents ... I found letters she wrote to her husband to spend more time with them and also depression medication belonging to him."

It is alleged that Sashya's husband, Deveraux Cato, a soldier, killed her, before killing himself. The Long County Sheriff's office in Georgia is currently investigating.

"She was the glue, the family person always pushing for everyone to stay close, holding us together," he said. "Sash and I were very connected; I spent Christmases with her and her family and I looked forward to creating new memories each year. The morning of her death, I was roasting with a high fever right through ... I had no idea why because I was not sick then or after."

The Loving Is Easy artiste said the last time he saw the couple was in the summer and had plans to visit this month. Sashya's remains were cremated due to the extent of her burns and the family will have their memorial service this Sunday, October 30, at the Family of God Adventist Church on Brunswick Avenue in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

A GoFundMe account has also been created to clear up debts related to the legal proceedings for custody of Sashya's son, who may end up in foster care.

"He is only four, so he is just learning that mommy is not coming home anytime now and he believes she is in a long sleep, but he's lost both parents in all this," he said. He added that the father of Sashya's other child is still present.

"She at least has a better understanding and has tried to comfort us by saying her mother is watching over us. Both children are dealing with their grief in different ways, including the creation of imaginary friends. My family would really appreciate any contributions towards existing legal expenses which has so far cost US$50,000 and as we try to navigate this challenging time. It will take a very long time for us to heal, but with prayers we will," Shawn Antoine continued.
