Rain or not, party continues at Sabina Park

They say cricket is a game of glorious uncertainties, and last night's Caribbean Premier League match at Sabina Park proved it.

Hosting the final night of a four-game home stand, the Jamaican crowd wanted to see a clean sweep by the Jamaica Tallawahs franchise. After the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Guyana Amazon Warriors and Trinbago Knight Riders all buckled under the Sabina Park magic, the local boys were determined to give the crowd what they asked for.

Alas, the star of the show, at first, was Mother Nature, as a few drops of rain before opening action steadily increased, potentially messing up an exciting night of cricket. Fears were increased as a deluge came down forcing players from the field twice.

But while it meant no cricket, it meant the disc jock would have more work to do and he kept the patrons rocking with reggae and dancehall selections.

"Sabina Park, how you feeling?" he asked. "Wet," came the reply. Rain or not, it didn't top the blowing of vuvuzuelas and horns, nor did it ease up the bartender's load. If anything, it kept the orders of 'whites' coming in copious amounts.

But about 9:35 p.m. the announcer gave the news everyone wanted to hear; there would be cricket. Eighteen overs instead of the usual 20, but the crowd didn't care.

"A whole heap a cricket dat man," patrons shouted. Pretty soon it was fours and sixes raining down as those patrons who braved the downpour were rewarded.
