I’m tempted by a rich businessman

Dear Pastor,

I am 19 years old and a receptionist at a business place. Many young businessmen come to this office, and sometimes they leave their business cards with me and tell me that I can call them. I have called some of them, but I have my boyfriend and we are planning to have a future together.

One of these men is a well-known businessman. My boss told me that he has done very well in business. From the time he came to this office and I dealt with him, he has sent me flowers every week. Sometimes I dump the flowers.

He has asked me to go out with him, but I have always told him that I am busy. I have also told him that I have my boyfriend; he told me that nobody has to know. He said he could always send his driver to pick me up.

I cannot say that I don’t like this man. According to my boss, he has lots of money, and I know that I can use some of that money. But I do not want to get involved with him. My boss knows that he sends me flowers. He saw his name on some of the flowers and said to me that I should know how to protect myself.

What do you suggest that I do about this man?

Dear M.,

You can respectfully ask this man not to send you any more flowers and remind him that you told him you have a boyfriend. He should get the message if you do not respond beyond those words.

If he insists and continues sending you more flowers, you can ask your boss to speak to him on your behalf. Let your boss tell him that you do not wish to receive any more bouquets from him, and that if any more are sent, you will return them to the floral shop.
